When people initially started to ask what Stardust Ranch is, I found myself searching for the perfect words. Is it a ranch? A retreat? A destination? The truth is, it’s all of that and more. It’s an immersive experience, a creative escape shaped by land, intention, and vision.
Bringing that vision to life has been nothing short of a journey.
The Vision Was Immediate – The Work, Anything But
The first time I walked the property, I saw my vision clearly. Not just what was there (a single-family home, an old workshop, and open fields dotted with cattle), but what could be. I saw potential in the stillness and magic in the landscape. Stardust Ranch was never meant to remain as it was. It was meant to evolve.
Turning that spark of inspiration into reality, however, has taken time, grit, and a lot of hands-on problem-solving.
A Full Transformation
What started as a simple home on a stretch of Texas land is now well on its way to becoming a full-scale retreat. We’re talking about a total reinvention: removing old structures, building additions, repurposing the land, and preparing for future experiences like skydomes, wellness stays, and intimate events.
The main house is being expanded, the guest house restored, and the former shop has temporarily stepped in as an event space while we plan for a larger gathering area. Everything has been touched, from ripping out incorrectly installed pool coping to excavating land to fix poor grading around the house, and building a retaining wall.
We’re creating a bathhouse and wellness center from the ground up, which requires a lot of innovation and creative thinking. Running electricity deep into the pasture, burying propane tanks, installing commercial-grade septic systems… none of it is glamorous, but all of it is essential.
Ranch Dreams Meet Real-World Logistics
The beauty of this property is its seclusion, but that comes with a price. Deliveries are complicated at times because the main gate isn’t wide enough for an 18-wheeler. Reliable tradespeople can be hard to come by. Even keeping cattle safely away from the work zones meant installing temporary fencing and rerouting pasture access.
And then there’s the reality that I’m wearing every hat imaginable. As the founder of Urbane Design, I’ve overseen every element of this ranch property, from design and construction to branding, marketing, content creation, and beyond. Every inch of progress has required deep personal involvement.
People see the beautiful final photos and think these things just happen. But behind the scenes? It’s long hours, setbacks, tough decisions, and the kind of challenges designers, architects, and builders everywhere know too well.
Lessons, Wins, and What’s Ahead
There have been lessons at every turn, the main one being: keep the big picture in focus, even when the day-to-day feels overwhelming.
All that being said, there have been just as many wins as challenges. The land continues to speak, guiding decisions with its intuitive energy. The bones of this retreat are strong, and the dream is becoming real, one foundation, one blueprint, one sunrise at a time.
So, what is Stardust Ranch? It’s a reimagined space built for inspiration, grounded in the natural world, and touched by the cosmos. It’s where design meets purpose. It’s where cattle still graze just beyond the excavation site. It’s raw, real, inspiring, and ever-evolving.
And this is just the beginning.
