The Gems of Round Top: What to See & Do

Round Top may be small in size, but it’s absolutely packed with charm, creativity, and inspiration, especially if you know where to look. This town has long been a source of magic for me, both personally and professionally. Round Top continues to surprise and delight, from dusty field finds to quick breakfast taco stops before a day of sourcing.

Here’s a glimpse into some of the places that have captured my heart and inspired the soul of Stardust Ranch.

The Show That Started It All

Multiple times a year, this tiny town transforms into an international design destination with the Round Top Antiques Show. It’s 17 miles of vendors, stories, and serious schlepping. While many designers flock to the big-name spots, I’ve always gravitated toward The Fields of Warrenton. It’s not curated or polished, just rows of tents, piles of dust, and endless possibilities. You have to dig, but the gems are worth it.

Then there’s Excess 1 and Excess 2, buildings tucked into the show that always seem to have something unexpected. And of course, Market Hill is a mainstay. I love the smaller vendors there, and I always find something unique that sparks an idea. Marburger is stunning (and well-known), but the hunt outside the spotlight is where I find my favorite pieces.

A Delicious Break From the Dust

A full day of antiquing requires great food, and Round Top delivers. During the show, I always try to carve out time for a five-course dinner at Bader Ranch. The chef there is phenomenal, and the setting is as inspiring as the meal. For something more casual but equally delicious, Duo at Market Hill is a solid choice.

Mornings are sacred when I’m in town. I love grabbing a cappuccino and breakfast taco from a tiny coffee shop across the street from The Southern Beast. It’s my favorite way to start the day.

If I have time for lunch, I head to Boone & Co. The space is beautiful, the food is fresh, and it’s the perfect midday pause.

Shops With Soul

One of my absolute favorite places to shop year-round is The Southern Beasts. Mary Lou is incredibly talented, and I call her the queen of Round Top. Her work has so much depth and character, and her shop feels like a little sanctuary.

Another gem is Via Vandy. She makes jewelry and sells vintage kimonos, and let’s just say my collection has grown considerably thanks to her. Her booth is full of treasures and good energy.

More Than Antiques

Beyond the show, Round Top is a place that values the arts, history, and meaningful connection. The Round Top Festival Institute is one of those unexpected gems with a sprawling 210-acre campus with stunning European-style architecture, gardens, and performance spaces. Whether you’re into music, art, or simply want to be inspired, it’s worth the visit.

The Soul of Texas Chic

What I love most about Round Top is that it refuses to be one thing. It’s country charm meets elevated design. It’s vintage finds and fine dining. It’s welcoming, stylish, and just the right amount of quirky. There’s no traffic, no rush, just good people, great stories, and a whole lot of imagination.

This town is the kind of place that reminds me why I fell in love with design in the first place. And if you give it the chance, it’ll leave its mark on your work, your space, and maybe even your heart.
